I guess they wanted to make all episodes before releasing them and put them out all at once. I would rather that than waiting ages for one episode and then ages again for the next. It bugs me when there is an interesting youtube series but they take years to make one episode then cancel it because people bug them too much to bring out the next episode.
Actually, I believe the reason it was delayed so much was because of the production of another anime: Kotetsujyo no Kabaneri.
It’s been stated that the story will deviate a bunch for season 2, IIRC.
